Chile is a key avocado producer with high-quality fruit product at global level, but drought-issues have made avocado cultivation difficult, reducing production. Clonal rootstocks usage promises to produce more productive, uniform and predictable crops, although in terms of fruit quality the results are controversial. For these reasons, using transcriptomics we compared Hass avocado trees grown on seedling and clonal rootstocks in a soilless and protected system as a strategy to maintain the competitiveness of Chilean market facing drought.

Phytophthora cinnamomi is an oomycete pathogen of global relevance. It has caused irreversible damage to natural ecosystems and horticultural crops. One of the goals of this study was to generate a high quality genome. The lack of a good quality genome sequence has been a setback for various genetic and genomic research to be done on this species. As a consequence, little is known regarding its genome characteristics and how these contribute to its pathogenicity and invasiveness.
