P.americana cv. 'Nabal'

Parentage: Guatemalan

Originated in Guatemala, imported into the U.S. by F.W. Popenoe in 1927, in Florida in 1937. Seed tight in cavity. Skin is thin to medium in thickness, not pebbly, but can be hard and shell like. Season June through October. Tree is strongly alternate bearing. Typical Guatemalan.

Parentage: Guatemalan

Large, black round fruit with thick, enameled pebbly skin. This was variety was first pictured in the Avocado Yearbook in 1917. Tall tree.

P.americana cv. 'Noga'

Parentage: Hybrid

Named after Mr. Noga who lives in the San Francisco, Ca. area. This tree is said to be cold resistant but this has not been tested. Pear/Oval shape.

P.americana cv. 'Nowels'

Parentage: Hybrid

Originated in Hunting Park, California, by M.E. Nowels. Introduced in 1940. Fruit is an odd color of green. Light bulb pear shape with many bumps that are much lighter green over darker green background. Skin is medium thin. Less frost tolerance than Fuerte.

Tall tree. Fruit are light green when hard. Winter ripening.

P.americana cv. 'Pinkerton'

Parentage: Hybrid

Pinkerton avocados have small seeds, yield more fruit per tree and are available in a full range of sizes early winter through spring. Commercial variety. Harvest begins in January in some commercial areas. High oil content. Medium slightly spreading tree. Hardy to 30 degrees.

Parentage: Mexican

Introduced as budwood in 1911 from Atlixco, Mexico. Skin more leathery than granular. Surface glossy and purplish-red at maturity. Seed is tight in cavity. Tree is a very rapid grower, erect, with drooping branches. Fruit has good flavor. Season: Mid Dec.to March.

Parentage: Guatemalan

Originated in Carlsbad, California, by James Reed. Introduced in 1960 from a chance seedling planted in 1948. Fruits ripe May to September according to most literature. Cold tender.

Parentage: Hybrid

Originated in Carlsbad, California, by Sam Thompson. Introduced in 1948. Thin, tender green skinned fruit with a pear shape. Some fruit have a small neck and a flat bottom. Ripens Jan. to Apr.; resembles Fuerte.
