P.americana cv. 'Sir Prize'

Parentage: Hybrid

Season of maturity averages 6-8 weeks earlier than Hass. Mexican-race type avocados are typically more cold resistant than 'Hass'. Fruit shape is pear with distinctive ridge along one side. Skin texture is not truly pebbled like 'Hass'.

Parentage: Mexican

Originated in Mentone, San Bernardino County, Ca, on the Stewart Ranch. Introduced in 1956. Flesh clear, bright, light yellow shading to green toward skin, firm, but melting, excellent quality; ripens from early Oct. to mid-Dec.

Parentage: Hybrid

Originated in Santa Paula, California, by J. Nicholas Thille. Introduced in 1954 from an open-pollinated seedling of Hass planted in 1946. Good appearance but tends to russet late in season in inland areas.

Originated 1907 from seed in Ojai, California. Fruit season, Sept - Dec. Poor flavor, used mainly as a rootstock.

Parentage: Mexican

Fruit: seqason, Sept.-Oct.; color, purplish black; weight, 3-5 ozs.; shape, pyriform; skin, smooth, thin; flavor, fair plus; oil, high. Seed, small.

Parentage: Hybrid

Many fruit are spheriod. Skin has large, coarse pebbles. Small drooping tree with small leaves. Named after Bob Whitsell who worked for Dr. Bergh in the avocado breeding program.

Originated 1927 near Whittier, California on the ranch of Mr. Williams. Fruit season like Fuerte (November through April).

Parentage: Mexican

Originated in Fallbrook, California, by W.L. Ruitt. Introduced in 1941 from a selection made in 1926. More hardy than Fuerte. Commercial variety. Fruit are oval/pear in shape with waxy bumps on the skin.
